PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
